Almost a quote

The pursuit of happiness is a most ridiculous phrase; if you pursue happiness you’ll never find Rome.- C. P. Snow

A word has been added or deleted, or replaced by another word, to arrive at the ‘almost a quote’ above. Which word?

    Rome should simply be “it”.

So true…. People who spend their lives pursuing happiness end up dying having never found it – and probably were viewed by most to have been grumpy.

While the puzzle-factor is pretty simple on these quotes (via Google), please keep including them. You’re finding some good quotes from (I assume) obscure sources. I say “I assume” because admittedly I’m not well read so C.P. Snow could very well be famous.

Most of the quotes I find at http://www.quotationspage.com/.

“Charles Percy Snow, Baron Snow CBE (15 October 1905–1 July 1980) was an English physicist and novelist, who also served several important positions in the UK government. He is perhaps best known for a series of novels known collectively as Strangers and Brothers, and for “The Two Cultures”, a 1959 lecture in which he laments the gulf between scientists and “literary intellectuals”.”

I know him because of “The Two Cultures” idea.
