I wrote about the image problem for comments in 2007: http://easyquestion.net/thinkagain/2007/12/04/note/
Since then, a lot of water has been running under the bridge. There is a free plugin that allows images to be placed in comments: http://www.trevorfitzgerald.com/2007/12/wordpress-comment-images/
There is also something called LightWindow: http://www.stickmanlabs.com/lightwindow/
At the moment I just go in an edit the comment so the image will show. When I find the time I will install the plugin and look at LightWindow.

Thank you for introducing me to Martin Gardner. I pulled out our box of toothpicks and showed my son this and the giraffe. Great puzzles.
